A little help for your next paper.

Write, save, compile

Source saves automatically. “Saved” means the server acknowledged it. PDF preview recompiles after saving; turn Auto off to compile manually. A failed build keeps the last successful PDF, labeled with its revision. The error panel jumps to the source line.

Packages and imports

Choose pdfLaTeX, XeLaTeX, or LuaLaTeX in compiler settings. The pinned TeX Live 2026 environment includes the installed package collection, BibTeX, Biber, indexes, and glossaries. Upload your own .sty, .cls, .bst, images, and fonts. Shell escape, minted, runtime downloads, custom build scripts, and .latexmkrc execution are disabled.

ZIP imports preserve nested filenames. Select the main .tex file before importing. Projects support 500 files and 100 MB expanded content, text files up to 2 MB each and 10 MB total, assets up to 25 MB, and ZIPs up to 50 MB.

Sharing

Projects are private by default. Owners invite editors or viewers by verified Google email. Editors share a single writing lease; only the owner can force a takeover. View links include source, assets, and PDF downloads. Revoking a link or membership blocks future requests; it cannot remove copies someone already downloaded.

Recovery

Unsaved changes stay in this browser’s local recovery storage. Do not clear browser data before recovering them. Recent revisions restore source and settings as a new revision. Checkpoints are kept for seven days, with a 100 MB checkpoint budget per project. Trash is recoverable for 30 days. Download a source ZIP for an independent copy.

AI assistance and data

Select text or place the cursor, then choose AI or press ⌘K / Ctrl+K. Review the context before Generate. Only the selected passage, nearby text, a bounded preamble, requested diagnostics, and files you explicitly include are sent. The prompt and proposed changes stay beside your source. Enter generates; ⌘Enter / Ctrl+Enter accepts; Escape dismisses. Shift+Enter adds a prompt line. Tab AI is off by default. Enable it in the editor to request suggestions after pausing for 1.8 seconds, at most once every 15 seconds. While enabled, typing sends nearby source and the preamble. Suggestions and edits share one weekly AI budget; there is no request-count limit. Dismissed or canceled generations can still consume model usage. Tab accepts a ready suggestion; Escape dismisses it. Without a suggestion, Tab keeps its normal indentation behavior. Alt+backslash requests a single suggestion without enabling automatic requests. The toggle resets when you leave the workspace.

Explicit edits use Claude Sonnet 5 through Anthropic. Tab suggestions use DeepSeek V4.1 Flash through Baseten, Fireworks, or Novita. Both use Vercel AI Gateway with zero data retention and no-training routing. Requests fail if their permitted route is unavailable. Vercel’s routing policy and Anthropic’s retention exceptions describe provider obligations. CollabTeX stores generated proposals privately for seven days; it records model, token counts, cost, and decisions without putting manuscript text in application logs.

AI changes require acceptance, create a recovery checkpoint, and can be undone once. A changed source revision invalidates a proposal. AI may produce incorrect prose, mathematics, or LaTeX. Review it and compile. Explanation does not alter your document.

Proposals stream into a live draft with elapsed time and model activity. Cancel keeps the partial draft available to save; it never applies an unfinished edit. Active output has no app-level elapsed-time timeout. Requests stop after 90 seconds without a first response or 60 seconds without further model content. A hosting limit of 30 minutes and output size limits still apply.

Plans and usage

AI has one rolling seven-day spend budget per user, shared across all projects, Tab suggestions, and explicit edits: $1.00on Free and $15.00 on Pro. There is no AI request-count limit. Usage leaves the budget seven days after it occurred; Account shows when capacity starts returning. Running requests reserve part of the remaining weekly budget until their cost is known. Free includes 5 active projects, 250 MB, and 10 CPU minutes daily. Pro includes 100 projects, 5 GB, and 120 CPU minutes daily. Compile limits remain per rolling 24 hours. No overage charges. Billing is currently a test sandbox; the displayed $19 price is a test fixture, not a launch offer.

Troubleshooting

For a compile failure, start with the first error and its source line. Later errors may be consequences of it. Download the raw log if needed. If saving fails, keep the tab open, download local recovery, and reconnect before retrying. Files → Recent revisions lets you compare before restoring. Trash is available from the project library on every screen size.

When reporting an issue to your project administrator, include the steps, approximate time, browser, and visible error. Remove private document text, invitation links, and account tokens from screenshots or logs.

Account deletion

Account deletion revokes sign-in sessions and sharing immediately. Owned content enters the 30-day removal schedule. Active subscriptions are canceled, with retries if Stripe is unavailable. Financial records may remain with Stripe; independently downloaded copies cannot be recalled.
